Robyn MacDonald - Information, Training & Support

Robyn is a clinical nurse consultant. She works with midwives, hospital social workers and genetic counsellors to deliver current information and develop a best practice skill set to support new families who have a child with Down syndrome. Robyn is responsible for providing education to health professionals across NSW.

Flavio Fernandez-Maldonado, Up! Club Coordinator

Flavio coordinates Up! Club, the social inclusion program for young adults with Down syndrome living in the Sydney metropolitan area.  Flavio has worked in the disability sector for over a decade. Flavio has an Associate Degree in Social Science (Disability) and can be found on the soccer field or basketball court in his spare time.

Kate McNamara, Particpation Coordinator

As Participation Coordinator, Kate builds opportunities for members with Down syndrome to play a part in the direction and running of DS NSW. Kate’s background is in the community services sector including aged care and childcare.  Since the arrival of her daughter Bridget in 1997 Kate’s focus has been project management in the disability sector. Kate has worked with DS NSW for a number of years previously and re-joined us in her current role in 2014. In whatever spare time Kate finds in her busy life she does ‘Not much’ and likes to travel.

Miriam Philomena - SP21 Support Planning Team Leader

Miriam Philomena, Team Leader, Support Planning project, has worked at DS NSW for over ten years in the Information, Training and Support Team. A qualified social worker Miriam has a great depth of knowledge in the area of older people with Down syndrome and person centred practices. In 2014 Miriam moved to head up the support planning team. She has been a member of the Association for 26 years and loves to dance and drum.

Catherine Pedler - Senior Consultant - Training & Education

Catherine’s responsibilities include liasing with and supporting families, developing and delivering training modules for educators and parents, and facilitating the Better Start programme. Catherine is experienced in understanding the communication needs and visual strategies used to support people with Down syndrome. She has a particular interest in children with Down syndrome in the education system. Catherine's background is in technical strategy and training in the financial planning sector. She has been a member of the association for more than 12 years.
